World War II in Pictures: A Look at Our History

North African Campaign
Military operations in North Africa took place from June of 1940 to May of 1943, with a series of battles for its control erupting within this timeframe. Apart from the valuable oil reserves in the Middle East, northern Africa was also the location of the Suez Canal, an important route for the British colonial empire.

Flying Over Egypt

The campaign was mainly led by the Libyans, Italians, and Germans who faced a huge coalition force that dew the conflict out for almost three years. The image shows an Allied plane flying over the breathtaking pyramids of Egypt.
