Hermann Goering’s Art Collection
While looting has always been a feature of war, the Nazis employed an organized method of looting in Europe, focusing on art and other items of cultural significance. Treasures such as books, paintings, currency, and gold were plundered under the behest of the Nazi Party.

Most of the loot was recovered by the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program of the Allies, including the personal collection of Hermann Goering, which included over 2,000 pieces of art and other items. While international efforts to recover Nazi plunder have been consistent, a lot of precious items are still unaccounted for.
