Across The Earth

Glyptodon shells have been found in so many places that, to date, their remains have been excavated from almost every continent in the world. So Jose’s discovery in Argentina wasn’t much of a surprise to experts (though it certainly was a marvel).

Glyptodon fossils have been discovered in countries like Australia, Antarctica, and China. But what exactly was their role in the ancient world’s ecosystem?

What Are Glyptodons?

Glyptodons were ancient animals known to have had one of the most potent defensive strategies of their time. In fact, these fantastic critters were unbeatable when it came to defensive prowess.

If we could compare their shells to an animal that exists today, they would have the nearest resemblance to those of tortoises. They are durable, sturdy, and strong enough to wear down predators. Research suggests that glyptodons lived alongside humans, and we might also be the reason why they are extinct.
