Sheila was brought to In-Sync in the hopes that she would soon start to recover from the poor treatment she received from her former caretaker. Initially, she wasn’t responsive to the treatments given to her, but her rescuers refused to give up.

Sheila wouldn’t lift her head to eat the food given to her, so the rescue team would sit patiently with the lion and feed it to her by hand. Keahey, the founder of In-Sync, shared that she had to go into the cage with Sheila and hand-feed her for two weeks, literally stuffing food down the lioness’ throat (gently, of course).
