In December of 2012, Robertson traveled from Vietnam to Canada to reunite with his family. His long-lost sister, Jean Robertson-Holley, meanwhile, flew in from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with her husband and their daughter, Gail. It was a reunion that was decades in the making, and they were all anxious to see Robertson again. Just a few days before Christmas, the homecoming finally happened.
It was an emotional reunion, but it was certainly a strange one. Robertson could barely speak English and needed the help of a translator. He could not even remember his own childrens’ names, and had lost track of his own birthday. He seemed like a complete stranger. Jean Robertson-Holley, however, was convinced that the man was indeed her missing brother.
