To conduct the DNA test, a forensics laboratory based in Alabama obtained a blood stain sample from the man found by Faunce in Vietnam and compared it against a sample collected from Robertson’s nephew. These samples were carefully examined by forensics experts who then determined that the two men were not at all related.
Cyndi Hanna, another niece of Robertson, expressed how disappointed she was with the results on the GoFundMe page created to help raise money for the test. Gail Metcalf, the daughter of Robertson’s sister Jean, expressed a desire to seek the truth on different terms, mentioning that the US government could have been mistaken when they concluded that Robertson was no longer alive.
