In an interview, Jorgensen disclosed that Robertson’s American wife and two children refused to do a DNA test. Although they had initially agreed to participate, they changed their mind at the last minute. Jorgensen was baffled by this decision. He could not understand why anyone would refuse to find out the truth about their missing loved one.
This decision by Robertson’s wife and children could have stemmed from their desire to believe that their loved one was still alive. If the results came back negative, proving that the man from Vietnam was not John Hartley Robertson, then this would only increase the chances that John Hartley Robertson was indeed dead. Perhaps they just weren’t ready to let go of the glimmer of hope that had been given to them after so many years.
