Matt and Laura ended up being in different classes in kindergarten. To add insult to injury, they weren’t enrolled in the same elementary school. To be clear, this was not an intentional choice of the part of their parents, it was the result of a zoning rule that required kids from certain neighborhoods to attend specific schools.
This stressed Matt and Laura out. Both were worried about spending less time together and possibly growing apart. Their parents gave them promises of weekend playdates, reassuring them that things could still be the same. However, they did not comprehend just how close the bond had become between their kids.
