The first maritime force of Turkey set sail in 1081 when Turkish fleets ventured into the unforgiving Aegean sea. But it wasn’t until July 1, 1949, when it was officially renamed and managed as the Turkish Naval Forces Command.
Recent reports suggest that the Turkish Naval Force has 48,600 soldiers on its payroll and 94 naval assets with a total defense allotment of $10.2 billion. They also have 11 mine warfare vessels, 34 patrol crafts, 16 frigates, ten corvettes, and 11 submarines.
