Italy

The first version of today’s Italian Navy was formed on March 17, 1861, and called the Regia Marina. It wasn’t until after World War II in 1946 that they changed it to its current name. As of August 2014, Italy’s maritime force was revealed to have a total number of 30,923 naval soldiers.

To back up these numbers, the Italian Navy boasts a total of 143 naval assets and a defense budget of $37.7 billion. That includes two corvettes, four destroyers, ten patrol crafts, 14 frigates, ten mine warfare vessels, two aircraft carriers, and eight submarines!
