The Hellenic Navy of Greece grabs a spot on this list with its rich history. It became official in 1828 when the Greek War of Independence necessitated a maritime force.
Two centuries later, and the Hellenic Navy only grows stronger with a total of 115 naval assets at last count. They have four mine warfare vessels, 13 frigates, 11 submarines, and 33 patrol crafts. But of course, this fantastic fleet wouldn’t be possible without a total defense budget of $6.5 billion.
