While it may be a small country, Taiwan isn’t a nation anyone (apart from China) wants to mess with, especially on the water. Its official maritime force is called the Republic of China Navy. The naval force is known to have 38,000 active soldiers on its paycheck. All in all, they own 87 marine assets and receive a total defense budget of $10.7 billion.
Taiwan’s effort to strengthen its naval might was (and still is) inspired by a desire to protect itself from enemies, China in particular. Though China is a superpower and seemingly impossible enemy when it comes to numbers, Taiwan is poised to give a good fight if it ever comes to war. They have 30 patrol crafts, two submarines, four corvettes, and five mine warfare vessels.
