Chester Arthur served as the 21st president of the United States. An American attorney and politician, he took over the presidency following James Garfield’s assassination. With a high IQ of 152.3, Arthur was considered one of the smartest US presidents. But did he live up to the expectations of his countrymen?
Arthur struggled from the outset, especially in overcoming a negative reputation as a stalwart. Lacking brilliancy, Arthur was more recognized in his death than his service as president. His lack-luster term in office led some journalists and historians to call him the “Most Forgotten US President.”
