Upon rescuing Sheila, it was evident that she was suffering from problems with her coordination. The poor creature had trouble standing up on her own. Her rescuers believed this was due to muscle weakness from the neglect.

In addition to her problems with movement, Sheila had a very poor appetite. She would hardly bother to lift her head when food or drink was offered. For the rescuers, it seemed that the lioness had simply lost her will to live.
