Old-Fashioned Hygiene Tips That Will Leave You Cringing

By | June 21, 2019

It’s no secret that throughout the course of history, both men and women (mostly women) have done a lot of things for the sake of beauty. While there’s nothing wrong with this per se, some of these things turned out to be not only unhealthy but dangerous as well. As humans, more often than not, we obsess over how we look, given the fact that what we see determines a major part of how we react to other people. This perception of attractiveness can lead us on an endless quest to make ourselves more beautiful. While the underlying motivation is the same, the time you’re living in and your cultural background will determine just what this quest looks like. For some, it might mean losing weight, whereas, for others, beauty lies in a fuller form. Some may seek pale skin while others can’t be tan enough. Arising out of all this have been some remarkably strange beauty and hygiene trends that, in some instances, are truly horrifying. Join us on a trip down memory lane as we take a look at some of the strangest beauty trends of the past that are not only weird but borderline disgusting too.

Sharing is Caring

Sharing is caring and apparently, this once applied to bath water too. We all know how important it is to take a daily bath. However, in the past, bathtub water would not only be shared by members of the family but by people in the town at large.

The reason behind this is that it took some time to heat up enough water for a bath, so people would just share the water among the members of their family. Baths were also taken in a specific order, from oldest to youngest, so tough luck if you’re the baby in the family.
