That Floating Skirt, Though
It was during the Viktor & Rolf Spring/Summer Fashion Show in 2010 when model Anja Rubik caused a stir of excitement when she walked down the runway in a dress that seemed to be missing a huge chunk in the middle, making it appear as if the skirt was completely floating in midair. Add a black background and this illusion is completely stunning.
The optical illusion is achieved by placing a black band between the upper and bottom pieces and having solid construction around the top layer of the bottom half of the skirt. Simple, but genius. Designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren were responsible for this magnificent level of craftsmanship, and have been called “masters of illusion” by other designers. Considering how mind-blowing this dress is, they sure deserve that title.
