Hitler’s Vacation House
Hitler loved things that were new and fancy, including the famous house in Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden which served as his vacation retreat in the 1920s. Also known as Berghof, he began extensive renovations on the home when he purchased it. Other Third Reich personalities also purchased land in the area.
Hitlers Retreat
After the war, Obersalzberg was turned into a military zone and the buildings were requisitioned by the American army. The homes of Nazi leaders were also destroyed by bomber planes. Today, visitors can still explore the underground tunnels that were once used by the Nazis.
