Turning the Tables
Those who survived their ordeals in the concentration camps were liberated by the Allied forces in 1944 and 1945. Only a few thousand remained by that time, with most of the inmates already dead. In some camps, children had also been used as test subjects by the doctors for their experiments.
In this picture, a camp survivor finally has the upper hand on one of his tormentors. While the Allies were able to rescue the remaining camp prisoners, a lot of them still died afterwards due to malnutrition and poor health.
