World War II in Pictures: A Look at Our History

Holland chose to remain neutral during the beginning of World War II but were still invaded by Nazi forces on 10th May 1940 upon the order of Hitler. A day after Rotterdam was bombed, the Dutch forces surrendered to Germany.

Sweethearts

A small group started an active resistance against German occupation, and it grew steadily over the years. The country was freed in May of 1945 when the Germans surrendered. The photo shows several Allied soldiers being escorted by Dutch children to a traditional dance ceremony.
