Rip the Rescuer
When we mentioned that the citizens in Britain felt it was their duty to help in the war effort, we mean everyone, including animals. Rip was a mixed-breed terrier who served as a search and rescue dog during World War II.
Rip The Rescue Dog
Rip helped rescuers search for bomb raid victims and was credited for the rescue of more than 100 people. He was found in Poplar, London by an Air Raid supervisor and was the first rescue dog in the service. He received the Dickin Award in 1945, an honor given to animals who serve in times of war.
