Queen Elizabeth II was of the first British royals to serve in the women’s military during World War II. A popular mindset in England at the time held that it was every citizen’s responsibility to know and be part of what was going on in the war.

Like most of the women during that time, Queen Elizabeth played an active role during the war, serving as a driver and mechanic. She was a princess at the time, and her willingness to pitch in gave spirit to her fellow Brittons.
