Celebrating in New York
When World War II erupted, the US initially stayed neutral, refusing to side with either the Allies or the Axis. Things changed, though, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In the wake of this event (another one hotly debated in the land of internet conspiracy theories), America wholeheartedly offered their support to the Allied forces.

NYC Celebrations

On the 12th of January 1946, a Victory Parade was held in New York City to celebrate the end of World War II. It was led by 13,000 men, all under General James Gavin’s 82nd Airborne Division. The parade began at Washington Square and went on for over four miles up to Fifth Avenue.
