Creating a Decoy
War involves employing all sorts of different tactics, from defensive to offensive, and even diversionary. While some strategies worked, many were dismally ineffective. On the (surprisingly) successful end of the spectrum, American troops were able to create wonderfully effective decoys by using inflatable tanks and fake uniforms.
Inflatable Tanks
During World War II, the US army created a unit whose sole aim was to create distractions for the enemy. They created inflatable tanks with fake soldiers and placed these alongside trucks containing huge speakers that played the sound of tanks moving. This tactic served to deceive the Germans while other units attacked from a different direction.
