Blitzkrieg or lightning war is a German military tactic of spreading chaos among opponents through mobile forces and concentrated firepower. While they were successful in invading several countries with the help of this technique, they weren’t able to use it against the Russians.

The Soviet Union was able to counter Germany’s military tactics, mainly because the Germans underestimated the number of army reserves that USSR had. While they were able to scatter the Soviet army during their attack, their path was immediately blocked by another army. The photo shows a Russian lieutenant bravely leading his men in battle.
