The Blitz was a series of nighttime bombings carried out over London and other British cities by Nazi German forces. The raids caused massive damage to the cities’ infrastructures and also resulted in thousands of deaths, mostly in the capital.

Despite the viciousness of the raids, they had little effect in deterring Britain’s efforts on the war front. They also failed to pave the way for Germany’s planned invasion of England. These book enthusiasts hardly seem to mind that the library has been partially destroyed as they look for their next great read.
