Omaha Beach was the code name used by the Allied soldiers for one of the five sectors of the Normandy landings, an attack waged on the German occupation of France. US troops were responsible for securing Omaha, despite strong defense from the opposition.

One can only imagine what was going through the minds of the soldiers in this picture, as they waited to make their entry onto the shore. The D-Day attacks were one of the most fatal conflicts of the war, killing thousands of Allied soldiers, some before they’d even set foot on land.
