The Fall of the Railway Gun
Schwerer Gustav was destroyed on the 14th of April 1945, a day before the US troops were set to arrive in Germany. The railway gun was found in ruins in a forest north of Auerbach and was later studied by the Soviets who were gathering German military supplies.

This photo shows a group of American soldiers who climbed on top of the railway gun, proudly posing with their new find. While the Gustav was the Nazis biggest gun, it didn’t stop them from developing newer and more peculiar weapons.
