The Only Female Tank Commander
Aleksandra Samusenko was a liaison officer and Soviet tank commander during World War II. She was the only female tankman in the 1st Guards Tank Army, an army of the Russian Ground Forces. She displayed great bravery during the war.

Samusenko was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st and 2nd class, an award given by the Soviet military to soldiers who were part of the German-Soviet war. She also received the Order of the Red Star for defeating three German tanks during the Battle of Kursk.
