Built around the 1400s, Kilchurn Castle is one of the most photographed castles anywhere in the world. It was left abandoned in the 1700s and since then, the estate remains untouched. It attracts numerous visitors each year, who marvel at the beauty this castle still holds, despite having been abandoned for more than 300 years.
Kilchurn Castle was built by Sir Colin Campbell, the first Lord of Glenorchy, and it remained the base of power for Sir Colin’s descendants for 150 years. When it was still occupied, it served as the home of numerous powerful families and officials who visited Scotland.
