Pripyat officially opened the doors of the city on February 4, 1970. It is located near the border of Belarus and is considered a nuclear city of the Soviet. Back then, it served as a home to many of the workers of Chernobyl.
When disaster struck Chernobyl in 1986, the people of the city were left no choice but to evacuate due to the dangerously high levels of radiation. Today, you can actually visit the city, but you must be accompanied by an escort and go through mandatory radiation checks.
