Pretty as a Picture in Kolmanskop, Namibia

Don’t be fooled by this picture. At first glance, you can’t help but think that this is a picture painted on canvas. However, this is a real photo of part of Kolmanskop. It was a town founded in 1908 after a man struck it rich and found a diamond.

People started flocking to the area in the hopes of getting as lucky as the man who found the diamond. When no more diamonds could be turned up, the villagers had already used up the town’s natural resources. By 1954 it had been completely abandoned.
