Inspired by the concept of Disneyland, the Nara Dreamland Park opened its doors to the public in 1961. While it was popular for a while, Nara Dreamland closed down in 2006 after Disney’s own venture in the country siphoned away all the customers.
Ironically, the very act of abandoning it made Nara Dreamland a tourist attraction again. At present, many travelers visit the abandoned park to explore the ruins. A word of caution though, there are security guards who sometimes patrol the area. You won’t get into major trouble if you get caught but they sometimes give fines to trespassers.
