Ta Prohm is the modern name of the temple located at Angkor in Cambodia. It was founded by Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a monastery and university for the Mahayana Buddhists. After the fall of the 17th-century empire, it was left abandoned.
Over hundreds of years, it was gradually reclaimed by the jungle, though the locals do make sure that it is still preserved in a way that allows nature to do its thing. The temple remains unused but is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List and continues to be preserved and gently restored so people can safely explore it.
