It’s Just Dust
In this scenic Mars landscape photo captured by NASA’s Opportunity rover in 2016, you might spot what seems like a jetstream appearing in the far back. It’s nothing of the sort, though, but merely a dust devil. Mars is prone to these devilish and hazardous weather events. Future human tourists might want to prepare for these bad boys before visiting the planet.

Yup, these whirling creations are pretty common on the red planet. In 2012, NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter was also able to capture magnificent top-down footage of a dust devil in action. That one, in particular, reached a whopping 20 kilometers (12 miles) high.
