Waffle Island
First was the jelly doughnut, now this. I’m sensing a pattern here, Mars. Is this your way of telling us you are in dire need of food? In late 2014, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured an image on the red planet’s surface of a bizarre island shaped like a waffle.
Waffle island is 1.2 miles wide and is located in a region where hot oozing lava flows. Well, there goes my dream of visiting the sweet and fluffy island. According to the agency, the formation probably resulted from lava pushing upward from below.
