Just like the name implies, the Lauder family amassed its wealth through the prestigious cosmetics empire, Estée Lauder. The company started out as a business venture of husband and wife team, Joseph and Estée Lauder, after the end of World War II.
When the company first opened its doors in New York City, they only had four basic products on their shelves: a skin lotion, cleansing oil, a crème pack, and an all-purpose crème. In a span of two years, they had made enough profit to open a branch on Fifth Avenue, paving the way to becoming one of the first dynasties in America.
