In another example of a poor American family turning things around and getting rich, the Marshall family also found their luck in oil. However, this family also comes with a generous helping of controversy. J. Howard Marshall married Anna Nicole Smith, a 26-year old model, after striking it rich. He died a year later at the age of 90.
After his death, it was one legal battle after another, involving a tug-of-war for his wealth between J. Howard Marshall’s son, E. Pierce Marshall, and his wife, Anna. By 2007, both of the feuding parties were also mysteriously dead, making the Marshall family one of the strongest yet strangest dynasties in the US.
