Le Mont-Saint-Michel Island
Le Mont-Saint-Michel is an island in Normandy, France that is so magnificent, it has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is one of France’s most remarkable sights that attracts over three million visitors every year. Since ancient times, the island has held strategic fortifications. As early as the 8th century AD, it has also housed the monastery that sits at its peak.
During high tide, the island is impenetrable to invaders, but during low tide, it becomes accessible to hordes of tourists who wish to visit the abbey. Despite countless attempts by the English to conquer Le Mont-Saint-Michel during the Hundred Years’ War, France remained triumphant in defending the island.
