Pontiac Silverdome
The Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan was opened in 1975. The stadium was once home to the Detroit Lions football team. However, they transferred to the more chic and modern Ford Field in 2002. Years before this haunting image was taken, the stadium was an architectural masterpiece that hosted NBA finals, the Super Bowl, the Pope, an Elvis Presley concert, and countless gigs during its prime.

Due to the departure of the Lions, Pontiac suffered serious financial problems, hindering them from successfully maintaining the structure. It was sold in 2009 by Canadian real estate developer Andreas Apostolopoulos. The intention was apparently to turn it into a soccer stadium, but this is yet to materialize. No future plans for the stadium have been announced since. Today, the Silverdome is completely destroyed, its wreckage emptied of anything valuable. Still, there’s a certain amount of nostalgia to be gained from looking at the skeleton of what used to be a majestic stadium.
