The Murderer’s Work of Art
Captured above a field in Edinburgh, Scotland, this image is as breathtaking as it is creepy. During his jail time in the Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow, convicted murderer and former gangster turned artist Jimmy Boyle created the strange statue, which he named Gulliver the Gentle Giant.
In 1976, the statue was unveiled to the public by comedian Billy Connolly. Soon, it became the preferred playground of local children. Unfortunately, time has not been Gulliver’s friend. He has fallen into irreparable shambles and in 2011, was finally removed from the premises to make way for a flood prevention system. Before the authorities demolished the Gentle Giant, they digitally scanned him, so that he may continue to live on for generations to see.
