Lonely At The Top

If you are easily annoyed by noisy neighbors or are the type of person who would prefer to spend most of your time alone, then this might just be the right place for you. The Katskhi pillar in Georgia is home to the ruins of a medieval hermitage, dating back to the 9th or 10th century.

Although it was largely abandoned for an extended period, the ruins were studied in 1944 and again from 1999 to 2009. Religious activity was also revived during this time, and it became accessible to male visitors using an iron ladder that measured 131 feet. In recent years, however, the ruins have once again become inaccessible to the public.
