The Fifty-Year-Old Crash
Aside from buried beasts, it is also common for scientists to discover crashed vessels and old technology buried in ice. Some of these massive items have been long-since presumed lost, so it’s a welcome surprise whenever they are found. For instance, in 1952, a military plane headed to Anchorage, Alaska, crashed into a nearby glacier.
The accident cost 52 lives in total: 41 passengers and 11 crew members. Police and rescue workers were unable to salvage the ruins because of the harmful weather conditions. Fifty years later, however, the ice had melted enough that the glacier receded and a recovery mission was able to push through.
