As the rapid acceleration of melting glaciers and permafrost continues, scientists will discover more and more strange things preserved in ice. So far, we have a plethora of items ranging from baskets, bows, and weapons, to extinct animals and prehistoric humans (and let’s not forget about the poop and the deadly ancient bacteria). We can definitely expect more discoveries in the years to come.
Regardless of what we find, these artifacts are guaranteed to provide clear insight into what life was like during the ice age. Each one represents a scientific breakthrough that will allow us to learn more about the world in which we live. While global warming has its many disadvantages, we can at least look forward to more of these fascinating discoveries found through the rise of new scientific disciplines such as glacial archaeology.
