The Willow Bow
Another hunting item has been discovered by scientists in the melting ice patches. These bows were carved from willow tree branches and were used to hunt and kill prey such as reindeer and elk. One of the willow bows they discovered was as old as 340 years. Interestingly, this was one of the very first items discovered by ice patch archeologist, Tom Andrews.
In order to uncover the bow (or any ice patch artifact for that matter), Andrews needed to raise funds for the expedition first. Fortunately, he received overwhelming support from local and national supporters. He also had to gather thousands of aerial photos from the most inaccessible ice patches. Lastly, he had to travel to the sites via helicopter to identify which ones had the greatest potential of containing artifacts.
