Ancient Shelters
Aside from preserved bodies and animal belongings, scientists have also discovered a rare type of wood in the ice patches. There were no trees or other sources of wood found where the ice patches were located. The nearest trees were found several miles from the site, which means that someone had carved and stripped and carried the logs from several miles all the way to where the ice patches were.
The scientists believe that it was early hunters who brought the wood there. They most likely did so to create shelters in the cold as they waited for prey such as reindeer and caribou to arrive a the grazing spots.
