Science on Ice: All The Most Incredible Discoveries

More Animal Feces
We’ve talked about it before, and we need to talk about it some more. One of the most common things scientists discover covered in ice is animal excrement. And while it is kind of disgusting to study some old, dead animal’s poop from years and years ago, doing so is extremely educational. Animal waste should not be treated as waste at all, because it allows us to learn about the creature and its habits. For instance, it could tell us whether the animal was herbivorous or carnivorous. It could tell us how it was able to survive during those years.

Caribou droppings can let us know what diet the species ate, where they lived, where they went to find food. Did they have grazing territories, and if so, how many miles were they? We can even find non-creature-specific clues about the past from this poop as well. So, it’s well worth getting your hands dirty in the name of science.
