Atlatl
Don’t worry, I didn’t suffer from a stroke. That subtitle is a real word, folks. It is one of the most impressive inventions made by prehistoric humans. The atlatl (pronounced at-latel) was one of the earliest kinds of weapons designed by the anatomically modern human. It is so old that it even pre-dates the bow and arrow.
The instrument is made of a handle that has a notch at the end designed to hold spears four to six feet long. Every atlatl was customized for its hunter, having distinct ornate structures. This amazing innovation allowed the spear to travel much farther and with much more accuracy than those thrown by hand.
