Prehistoric Cats
Sabretooth tigers, also known as cave lions, roamed the Arctic circle during the ice age. Interestingly, a few unique specimens of this prehistoric felines were discovered by some Russian scientists in Yakutia, Siberia. Just like the woolly rhino, these tigers died as cubs. And just like the woolly rhino, they too were found well-preserved in ice, so much so that they still had fur on their bodies.
Just like many other animal species living in the last ice age, sabretooth tigers died out about 10,000 years ago. Scientists believe that this mass extinction was brought about by a combination of global warming and human hunting. Another body of a saber tooth tiger was discovered off the coast of the UK. The British beast weighed a whopping 881 pounds. Scientists have also discovered mastodons and other ice age animals from the exact same area of water.
