The Magical Properties Of Ice
Now, you might be wondering, how is ice so good at keeping things perfectly preserved? As it turns out, the freezing cold stops bacteria and other decomposing factors from doing their jobs. For example, in the Arctic, the cold is so intense that bacteria are deprived of oxygen, preventing them from being able to function. If they do manage to get some action happening, it’s nowhere near as potent as if the climate were warmer.
Because these decomposers can’t function properly, the quality of whatever it is buried in ice is preserved. This is why even ancient creatures found in the mountainous and freezing regions of the deep north and south – such as the woolly mammoth – are able to remain in perfect physical condition. Captain America sure does have ice to thank for surviving all those years in the water!
