Inca Rituals
Some discoveries in the peaks of the Andes Mountains, Chile, proved to be a little too chilling. Scientists uncovered what they learned to be Inca sacrifices. These ancient rituals offered up unfortunate souls, including human children, to the highest peaks of the Andes. These traditions may have been common in ancient times, but children dying for no reason is heartbreaking nonetheless.
In return for these offerings, the Incas believed that their gods would provide rain, protection, and better crops. The Andes Mountains are 15,000 feet high, and so far, 115 burial sites have been discovered on their slopes. The body of a young girl named “Juanita,” an unlucky child offering, was discovered in 1954.
